I hope you all had the merriest of Christmases! Michael's and mine ended up being more low key than anticipated; Michael's brother was under the weather, so the group was much more mellow than normal. We still enjoyed each other's company and ate some really great food, though! How was yours?
Today I wanted to share a beautiful + scrumptious book I've been perusing recently - Let Us All Eat Cake by Catherine Ruehle + Sarah Scheffel. This book is a great gluten free resource to cake, cupcake and icing making. It would be a perfect hostess gift as your holiday parties continue between now and the new year or a great wedding present for a bride who loves to bake!
It's especially beneficial for people (like me) who love to bake but are intimidated by the world of gluten free baking! I used to bake all the time but have stopped since going gluten free and often feeling overwhelming to just get real food on the table.
The pages of this book are thick and feel luxurious, while the photos are beautifully styled and mouth-watering. I have yet to bake anything from it, but the recipes invoke hope that they will be easy to follow - and there is such a variety of flavors and styles that I'm sure everyone can find something they'll love!
I appreciated the little tips and notes throughout the book - such as how to ensure that you're getting gluten free tequila for the margarita cake. I believe these tidbits can aid both seasoned gluten free cooks and those desiring to provide safe food for a friend.
Also when a cake requires egg whites the book will inform you if the icing paired with the cake requires the yolks, or vice versa. This is incredibly helpful and would prevent a lot of potential food waste for hurried bakers like myself. There is also a great section (with visuals) on different icing techniques.
Overall, I love this book. I can see myself referencing it for special occasions baking as well as when I want some pretty photographic inspiration (because the photos are lovely)!
